Stroke Care Home
Finding good residential care for your loved one is a daunting task and many factors often need to be considered before a decision is made. If they have suffered a stroke, the extra care needed should be considered.
Country Lodge care home in Worthing provides specialist care for stroke victims.
Why do stroke survivors require specialist care?
Strokes affect people in many different ways. The location where the stroke has occurred as well as the severity determines the extent of brain damage. Minor symptoms can include temporary weakness of an arm or leg, whereas a more severe stroke can be life-changing and will undoubtedly require a more ‘hands-on’ approach. This may include assistance with tasks such as washing or dressing, eating meals and providing equipment to make daily life more comfortable.
This life-changing experience usually results in physical and mental challenges. If your loved one needs a specialist stroke care home, we at Country Lodge would be delighted to work with you to create a bespoke care plan that supports all of their needs.
Plans can focus on;
- Mobility
- Muscle, joint, and nerve problems
- Thinking and planning
- Speech
- Depression and anxiety
- Frustration at their new circumstances
Providing stroke-specific care
As a specialist stroke care home, we provide the following specific care:
- Qualified staff – To ensure our guests are properly cared for, we have a team of specialist qualified nurses.
- Freshly cooked food – To promote a healthy lifestyle, we serve healthy and freshly cooked meals using locally sourced ingredients every day. Homemade cakes are served at tea-time and residents can request whatever they like for breakfast, at whatever time they prefer. Where helpful, our expert carers can assist residents in eating safely.
- Physical activities – To encourage exercise and mobility, we motivate our guests to participate in low-impact activities like bowling, spending time in our beautiful gardens or days out to visit the surrounding areas.
- Social connections – Social interaction and simply feeling connected to others helps ease the feeling of depression and isolation that are common after strokes. At Country Lodge, we ensure that our residents have plenty of time to socialise, whether it is with other residents, the nurses, or family and friends, everyone is welcome for a visit and can spend as much time in our home as they’d like.
- Physiotherapy – Sessions often take place at our home and can help stroke patients regain as much movement as possible. Regaining partial use of the hands and arms enables them to accomplish everyday tasks like dressing and feeding, whilst regaining any movement or strength in the legs can help improve their mobility and sense of balance.

Recent feedback
Our mum has been at Country Lodge for just over a year now. From the moment, we visited the home we were really impressed by the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the overall cleanliness. Also, the friendliness of all staff to visitors but, more importantly, the residents. Mum is very impressed with the food and she is a tough cookie to please! A huge effort is always made to celebrate birthdays and other occasions, a recent Bonfire Buffet and firework display were really enjoyed by all. The owners and staff really go that extra mile to make all events really special. Mum enjoys the wide range of activities offered each week. As there is a very low turnover of staff their interaction with all the residents is very personal, building a special bond. It's been a huge comfort to us knowing that Mum is being well looked after by such kind, caring people.

“A bright and cheerful place to live! Staff are very attentive to all the residents’ needs and provide plenty of activities should they wish to join in. My mother has been a resident at Country Lodge since April 2017 [written in 2020]. We selected it after viewing many homes, because the standards are superb, from personal care to the wonderful staff that look after my mother. Their kindness to her is lovely since being a dementia sufferer she can be quite difficult. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. The food there is carefully adapted to the appetite and likes of each resident. I cannot praise it highly enough. Staff treat all the residents with kindness and dignity. Well done to all there!”
